If you like the taste of venison or just like shooting this is one hoot of a game.
Big Buck Hunter, released in 2000, was developed by Incredible Technologies. It is a work of incredible technology as well. The scenes are photo-realistic, the movement and behaviour of the animals are true to life and the weighting of the shotgun stock used to hunt your prey all add to the immersive realism of this hunting simulator.
Up to four players can hunt at one time in head-to-head competition. The outdoor environments are stunningly real as the various prey animals move through the scenes providing players the opportunity for a good shot.
Players can hone their shooting skills by playing mini-games such as plinking cans off a fence rail or targets around the barn.
Players are able to select one of four regions across the United States to hunt in. There are over 200 authentic 3-D hunting environments with a variety of conditions such as fog, rain, early morning light or snow. Players must bag three bucks in each round to advance to the next round. Does are likely to pop up when the player least expects it and if a doe is shot then it's end of game. Points are awarded for buck with larger racks so players must be on the lookout for the big buck!
As players advance through each round the bucks become faster, sneakier in their use of cover and the percentage of bucks to does decreases which increases the chances of shooting a doe and ending the game. If a player successfully shoot your three bucks there are 16 bonus rounds available for playing including a Duck, Turkey and Quail Hunts, Skeet shooting and more.
The games ambient sound effects consist of country music and wind in the trees with satisfyingly realistic shotgun blasts when you squeeze the trigger.
