Your mission is to investigate the status of the mysteriously missing personnel at a genetic engineering center (The DBR Corporation) and of the first team of operatives sent to rescue them. You will also need to take defensive action and assist any survivors. During the mission, you will discover that the mad scientist Dr. Curien is the one resurecting the undead and you must stop him and his evil undead minions.
The game is divided into four Chapters, each with its own end-boss: Armored Giant, Man-Bat, Giant Spider, and the "Magician." The game allows you to aim and destroy specific body parts. (i.e. you can blow off the arms of a chainsaw-wielding undead enemy), although blowing off their heads is the fastest way of killing them. You can also earn power-ups by saving scientists throughout the game, but if you shoot one, you will lose one of your own health levels.

This game was one of the first to implement the "branching path" game mechanic. Throughout the course of the game, players are given numerous situations in which their actions will have an effect on the direction of gameplay. For instance, in the beginning of the game, a male civilian is about to be thrown off the bridge to his death. If players shoot the zombie and save the civilian, they will enter the house directly through the front door. However, if the civilian dies, players are redirected to an underground route through the sewers. There are other critical points in which the players' actions decide where they go.

If you dont do very well, as the credits play, you will travel out of the
mansion. By the time you see your car, the camera turns around onto the Mansion,
there is then a zoom into the room where you battle "The Chariot", Sophie Richards is standing there, the camera zooms in on her face, showing her with no Pupils and Zombie-like skin. If you do well, you will go through the same sequence and discover Sophie running from the scene and hear her say "Thank You".
