Battle gear 4 is a realistic simulation of driving on challenging courses. The way this model car with its modifications would behave, based on real world physics, is simulated with satisfying heart stopping reality.
There are all the basic controls, high beam buttons, hazards, gear shift and hand brake for drifting tight turns plus an actual clutch pedal! Players can configure gameplay for auto shifting, assisted auto or fully manual. If configured for fully manual players must use the clutch and shift just like they would with a real car with unique positions in the shift pattern for each gear.
Battle Gear 4, released in 2005 by Taito Corporation, is the fifth version of the Battle Gear series. The game runs on the Taito Type X motherboard with internet connectivity that allows the machine to access and update player records online. Players with NESYS network entry keys (sold separately) can download their cars from the virtual garage for play on the console. Player rewards, BG or Battle Gold, are uploaded onto the server at game's end. The player can then connect to the virtual garage and perform extensive modifications to the car for the next race. Players can purchase performance upgrades, using BG, for the entire drive train, tires, suspension and aerodynamic parts. The look of the car can also be tweaked with custom wheels and decals.
The 32" LCD widescreen vividly displays the brilliant effects and scenery that add to the realism of the game. Switch between different viewpoints to get all the action!
Cars are placed in 5 classes, S, A, B, C, D, based on horsepower and modifications. In keeping with the games focus on realism each is pictured with real life stats: dimensions, weight, engine and other info. Players may select cars from the following manufacturers; Citroen, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
The game gives players 4 modes of racing; single race, time attack, “same make race” (all cars in the race are the same model) and drift mode (players drift turns and earn points). There is a Battle Mode available if multiple cabinets are linked, with up to four players able to compete head-to-head. There are both loop and transit courses, all can be run the reverse direction. Courses are modeled on a variety of real world courses including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Bayshore route of Shuto Expressway, Japan and the Circuit de Monaco to name a few..
With Taito's own surround sound system "TX Surround", the games audio experience is as intense as it's visuals. Want to double, treble or quadruple your fun? Battle Gear 4 consoles can also be linked together, up to a total of four, for simultaneous multi-player competition!
