Be afraid, very afraid. There are things that go bump in the night that you most definitely don't want to bump into, unless you're carrying your favorite vampire killing shotgun of course.
Vampire Night DX, released in 2000, was jointly developed with Sega, WOW Entertainment and Namco. It is one of the best light gun games with a vampire theme so far produced. It has many features similar to Crisis Zone and The House of the Dead, also produced by WOW Entertainment.
Players move through a small village and a castle which is the home of the head vamp and his undead hordes. As the fiends approach you shoot them in the head and you had better be good at head shots as the beasties can take a lot of punishment.
There are six levels in the game, each corresponding to that level's Boss's elemental power, with alternate routes that can be activated by defeating specific enemies or causing certain events, such as saving a villager from joining the legions of the damned. Within each level there are objects that can be shot and destroyed and hidden within some of these are life or score bonuses.
Unlike many other shooters, Bosses can appear anytime and anywhere during the six levels of Snow, Stone, Fire, Darkness, Water and Moon. Players also need to be on the lookout for villagers that are turning into vampires as evidenced by the evil looking octopus like "sarcoma" attached to them. To successfully rescue the villager you must shoot the sarcoma. Successfully rescuing a villager often triggers a branch event that provides an alternate route in the level or advantageous information. If you shoot the villager instead of the sarcoma, he turns into one of the undead and will try to chew your face off.
The games ambient sound effects will have you jumping and give you the creeps while the music, with its gothic organs mixed with techno-rock, is perfect for the game.
